When people talk about meditation, it is normally about lowering brainwave activity from our normal wakeful state of beta, down into alpha (basic meditation) and sometime deeper into theta, delta and, if advanced enough, into epsilon. However, you can also heighten brainwave activity the other way. The gamma state is higher than our normal wakeful state of beta and by being in this high functioning brainwave state it can allow you to become more focused, improve your performance and increase creativity.
Experiments have shown a correlation between transcendental state and gamma waves in Tibetan Buddhist monks.
In 2004, 8 Tibetan Buddhist meditation practitioners participated in a study. They were monitored, using electrodes and the results were compared to a group of novice meditators who had meditated for an hour a day for one week prior to the study. Both groups showed similar brain activity when in a normal meditative state. However, when told to generate a feeling of compassion during the meditation, the monks brains' started to fire in a rhythmic manner - this suggested that neuronal structures were firing in harmony. They were also found to be in gamma.
The oscillations in the monks brain's were the largest to be seen in humans, whereas the oscillations in the novice meditators were scant. However, these signals did appear to strengthen with beginner meditators as they practiced the exercise, which suggested that it was possible to train the brain to produce gamma band rhythm.Gamma Peak State program has been designed to create a complete shift in consciousness with a sustainable peak of brainwave activity in gamma.
