Melatonin is a natural hormone, released from the pineal gland at night time, to induce and regulate our sleep. If our sleep pattern is disrupted, like travelling to a different time zone or insomnia, our melatonin can also be disrupted.
Melatonin supplements have been trialled and used successfully to prevent jet lag, although there are concerns over prolonged use of them. In some countries, melatonin supplements are prescription only.
